That sounds messy. The wife and I loved the movie as well. She hated original Trek and I tolerated it, so we had low expectations. There was so much to enjoy about this movie if people (i.e. uber-Trekkies) would let themselves enjoy something. I hope you didn’t have that joy-gasm in the theater. That sounds messy.

Comment on It’s a slippery slope, man. A slippery slope. by Anjin http://lb3k.com/2009/05/04/its-a-slippery-slope-man-a-slippery-slope/#comment-23 Anjin Tue, 05 May 2009 20:55:41 +0000 http://lb3k.com/?p=93#comment-23 This post cuts to the quick here. I have 8 characters in Guild Wars and 9 in World of Warcraft (and only one of these at the level cap). The only thing that saves me is my extreme distaste in deleting a character I've invested any time in. Empty character slots seem like such a waste, don't they? There is all that unrealized potential. This post cuts to the quick here. I have 8 characters in Guild Wars and 9 in World of Warcraft (and only one of these at the level cap). Comment on EverQuest 2 and the “first love” effect by Exeter http://lb3k.com/2009/03/03/everquest-2-and-the-first-love-effect/#comment-12 Exeter Wed, 04 Mar 2009 16:30:30 +0000 http://exdel.wordpress.com/?p=60#comment-12 I did buy the newest expansion because I'm a sucker that way. However, the best part is that SOE packaged this latest expansion with *all* of the previously released content. So it's more of an all-in-one thing than a just an expansion. I'm not sure when you bowed out, so I might be telling you something you already know, but EQ2 has some "looking for guild" tools. If you're unguilded, hit "O" and a list of guilds and a mini guild-bio for each will pop up along with links that'll put you in contact with a recruiter. Personally, I like to keep things casual and straddle a couple of guilds on the two servers I play on. However, if you do succumb to the urge to resubscribe, feel free to say 'howdy'. /tell Antonia_Bayle.Exeter /tell Antonia_Bayle.Ballads /tell Oasis.Vandhal I did buy the newest expansion because I’m a sucker that way. I always feel like I'm missing out. I had fun in EQ2 the last time I tried it, though I ran aground on the shoals of No Guild. Must.... fight.... urge to resubscribe! If you've been away for a year did you upgrade yourself with the latest expansion? Just curious. I probably couldn't help myself in your position, but can see both sides. Falling in with the right people really does make any game better. Congrats on the new house and the new blog. :)

Comment on A Culture of Anticipation? by Tesh http://lb3k.com/2009/02/12/a-culture-of-anticipation/#comment-9 Tesh Wed, 18 Feb 2009 22:03:56 +0000 http://exdel.wordpress.com/?p=26#comment-9 The desire for the "next big thing" is part of why America's GDP is 70% consumer spending. We've been conditioned to *want* more than is wise, and to believe that we're owed it. Finding satisfaction in what you *have* is a great cure. I'd posit that there are still a great many people who are happy with the WoW that they have, rather than another knockoff clone. More than once I've been disappointed in something due to my overblown expectations. In today's hype-driven culture, I've taught myself to suppress that forced anticipation so that I can enjoy things normally. On the other, JOSS WHEDON!!!! Comment on The Medium Matters by Tesh http://lb3k.com/2009/02/10/the-medium-matter/#comment-6 Tesh Thu, 12 Feb 2009 22:05:07 +0000 http://exdel.wordpress.com/?p=21#comment-6 No Stargate DVDs? Aye, I've also found that genres don't always translate well between media. I'm still scarred by the movie adaptation of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I do tend to think that individual perceptions of these media differences are often heavily influenced by the primary exposure to the subject matter. I know people for whom their LOTR exposure started with the films, and for whom the books aren't even interesting. On the other hand, I loved the books, and the movies (which came much later for me) are just passable. No Stargate DVDs?
